I have been so laxed lately with blogging it's crazy....sorry !!
We had another appt today. We get the band off in 2 or 3 weeks !!!! I am over the moon excited that we have an end in site. It wasnt as long as we initially thought either. We get it painted on Monday too,which is another exciting moment !!!
Things are coming together for Mr. Nix, so as soon as I get some pics of his new band, I'll be posting them !!!

Guess I should update huh?
Nixon had another appt today....week 3 of having his DOC band and he is doing awesome !!!! I added some stickers to his helmet until our paint job on August 3rd. I will try and get some pics up soon....PROMISE !!
Nothing really new to report......the Dr is really impressed with how well he is filling out his band. They are having to adjust it every time we go....he is growing super fast :) She did say tho that we would have it for a few months at the least, so maybe until Halloween?? I'm not sure.
I will post some pics as soon as I can :)

Ok....We have an appt for Nixon's band painting on August 3rd !!! YIPPEEE !!! I'm super stoked !! Today's appt was very positive :) We had another appt today and Nixon's head is forming nicely thanks to the DOC band. He did have a little spot that was rubbed raw, so we had to keep his band off the rest of the day while adding hydrocortisone to the spot to clear it up....tomorrow we will put the band back on providing the raw spot has cleared up ok.
We go to Cranial Tech weekly until we are given the ok to go every 2 weeks.

I am super excited !! Last night, the kids and I went out for pizza.....as we were getting ready to leave, I noticed another couple that had a little boy with a doc band that was decorated SOO cute. Of course I had to go find out where they got it done. We ended up chatting for about an hour, really nice people. Anyway, come to find out, the place that did their doc band is a motorcycle painting company that does Doc Bands for kids for free !!!! All you do is give them an idea of what you what and they get to use their creative side...how cool is that. I called last night and left a message for them. The couple told me that it took a month to get an appt, so I may have to grab some stickers for the time being, but I am way super excited that I get to have his band professionally decorated !!!!

Finally home..... Nixon's appt went surprisingly well :) The Dr. put it on and he just took it....lol He has been doing exceptionally well considering that he really doesn't like to have anything on his head. We are supposed to take it off and check for red spots every 3 hours, for the next 48 hours. On Saturday, thats when we will start leaving it on for 23 hours, then taking it off for 1 hour a day to bathe him and clean the band.
We are supposed to keep him as cool as possible and keep him away from water, unless its a bath since his band isn't supposed to get wet at all....which means NO swimming until it comes off..which can be anywhere from 3-5 months.
Anyway, thats todays appt.....we go back every week for checks and band shavings.
I will try and get some pics either tonight or tomorrow depending on wether or not Nixon will co-operate with me....lol

Thursday is the big day.....we actually get the band. I will try and get some pics during the fitting. Not sure how Nixon is going to like it, but its whats best for him right now. Our appt is at 10 am and not sure how long its supposed to take, but I will update as soon as we get home !!! Wish me luck!!!

Home from the appt.....It went as well as expected. They had to put a nylon like white stocking over his entire head :( He didnt like it that much but it was ok.....He absolutely HATED when they had to hold his arms down so that they could get an accurate scan of his head. He SCREAMED...OMG, It took everything I had not to jump up and punch these people out....lol I was almost in tears and poor Nathan, he just started crying cuz Nixon was :( It took all of about 30 min or so and that was it.....it felt ALOT longer than that tho.
June 18th, we go back and get his band....they will fit him and do the adjustments and then he will wear it for anywhere between 3-5 months.

Today, we are heading to Phoenix Childrens Hospital to get Nixon fitted for his DOC band. Our appt it at 3:30 and they said it takes about 30 minutes to an hour for the whole scan to be completed, then I think we have a consult after the scan. I will update again after then scan. Please pray this all goes smoothly.....I know that we have to try and keep Nixon semi-still for this .

So I got the call yesterday that the insurance approved everything....thank goodness, these Doc bands are expensive !!! Anyway, we scheduled his fitting for Thursday June 4th. We have a followup appt for his surgery on the 3rd, then his DOC appt on the 4th...busy medical week...lmao After his fitting on the 4th, we go back on the 18th to get his band and size it. I'm getting more nervous as the days go by, but a year from now, we will be done with everything .

Nothing really new to report.....we are patiently waiting for the insurance company to get back to Cranial Tech and then we will schedule Nixon's 3-D imaging session for his fitting. Cranial Tech said it would probably be a week before they heard back from the insurance company. I'm hoping that it gets moving a little sooner than that tho.
Nixon has been a rolling monster lately...lol His head is defintely not holding him back from doing what he wants to do !! He is even rolling to the side that the Dr. said would be the hardest for him to roll too because of his Torticollis. I'm telling you....this little guy is simply amazing and shows us everyday that he is not your average baby :)
Anyway, I have been researching different decorating ideas for Nixon's Doc band and have come up with a few I really like.....I would also appreciate some input from my blog followers if you have any cool ideas. I've been googling looking for ideas, but I know that there are other creative minds out there :)

The Cranial appt.
Ryan and I had gotten to the office about 9:45 for our 10 a.m. appt. The reception staff was very nice and made us feel a little more at ease. As we were waiting, another couple came out of the offices with their little boy in a DOC band. He looked so cute and his little helmet was all decorated. I smiled at him and he smiled back....I realized then that the DOC band is just something that will help his head and has nothing to do with what kind of little person he is. We were called back into the office, told to strip Nixon down to his diaper and then follow the nurse into another room. It was in this room where they took pics of Nixon's head, or as they called it...Nixon's photo shoot...lol They took all sorts of pics of his head from all angles and different directions. We went back to the room for more waiting. The Dr. then came in and sat with us and talked for what seemed like a few hours, but in all reality was probably only like an hour to and hour and a half. She recommeded that he receive and wear a DOC band for at least 3-5 months and also informed us that he also had Torticollis, which sometimes goes along with Plagiocephaly. She showed us some neck exercises to do with Nixon at every diaper change and also recommended that he receive physical therapy. She had informed us that his condition probably started in utero, which as a mom makes me feel like it's my fault. Our plan of action is to have his head digitally formed for the company to make his docband. As of today, May 25, we are currently waiting to hear from Cranial Tech to set up his appt for his scan, then 10 days after that, he will receive his helmet. He will have to wear it 23 hours a day for 3-5 months. He gets to have it off for 1 hour every day to bathe and clean the helmet. Yes, it is stressful to think he has to go through this, Yes, I feel a HUGE amount of guilt because of this and Yes, I do cry myself to sleep sometimes wondering if I could have done things differently. What I have come to realize on top of all this is regardless of what type of contraption my son has to wear, what kind of surgery he had to endure, the eczema, and the allergies, he is still the most beautiful little guy......He is still my little piece of heaven, he is my perfection, he is my son.

I got the referral call from Cranial Technologies shortly after his surgery and scheduled a consult for May 21. Now for the wait........

Surgery Day !! We woke up about 4:30 a.m. and headed to Phoenix Children's Hospital. We got there about 5:45 and the center opened at 6, so we took a stroll around the beautiful campus. At 6 a.m., we headed into the center to check in....at 6:20, we were taken back to pre-op for them to get some info and check his stats. He started getting fussy since he hadn't eaten since 9 p.m. the night before. The nurse gave him a cute little clown gown to change into and handed me a soothie binky. I dressed him in his little gown and stuck the soothie in his mouth....within minutes, he was asleep. At 7a.m. I watched my 4 month old go through the heavy metal doors that lead to the sterile surgery room. As a tear rolled down my face, I knew that we had made the right decision for him. I went back out to the waiting room...and waited and waited and waited. At about 8 a.m., they called me back to the recovery room. The nurse said that the procedure had gone really well and that she hoped I had brought a bottle since he was starving....lol My little man endured a harsh surgery and was still my little piggy when he woke up....lol He was a super trooper through the surgery !!! I got back to recovery and he was downing a bottle of Pedialyte. The nurse handed him to me and I gave him his bottle. We sat there for another 20 minutes, then they discharged him. We walked out of the surgery center at 8:20 a.m.
His recovery has gone well and he is back to his happy little self :)

She said it was slight and might require a DOC band, but didn't commit to it because it was so minut. She told me that she would call with a referral to Cranial Technologies, who specialize in plagiocephaly. I left the office confused and saddened. Not sad because of the outcome, but sad because of what Nixon has had to endure since birth. My heart hurt, but I know that our journey had just begun.
